Cypripedium parviflorum

I picked up a Cypripedium parviflorum (now C. calceolus var parviflorum) at www.vivacesmerlebleu.com and this is the first year it has bloomed. I was a tad worried last year when it immediately faded after planting and went dormant. But having faith, I left it alone and markd the spot. Ths spring I have two shoots and it’s looking quite healthy and happy.

The bloom here has been marked by an insect but I really don’t care. I’m simply enjoying this native orchid. I am going to divide it in a year or two and establish a shady bog spot for it. In the meantime, I’ll be watering it regularly.

Spring Bulbs

I truly like spring bulbs - they provide an instant jump-start to my winter psyche. There’s nothing like the burst of color that comes along just when you don’t think you can go another week of drab.

Here are a few of the spring bulbs in my garden this year.
